Waste not--want not. That is old but very true. At the Longhorns Head To Tail Store every part of a Texas Longhorn critter is used to it's most value. Not just great high omega-3 beef, but tanned hides, 74 different products made of horn, taxidermy hoof lamps, mounted tails, and you name it--it is here. The most popular is the professional western polished real Texas Longhorn skulls. At LHTT over 200 critters are processed for our beef consumers, and that provides a lot of beautiful skulls that the steers won't be needing anymore.

Starting in 1977 skulls were cooked, polished and "beautified" for the decor enjoyment of collectors. As a result of nearly 50 years in the specialized osteology field, a secret 26 step western polish process has been developed. Many of the processes are beyond a normal taxidermy system, and for sure do not involve any kind of nasty bugs or worms for cleaning.

While the value and majesty of LHTT skulls has increased, so has a low value competition. Fake horns, plastic skulls and shortcut processes all undercut the LHTT dedicated professionalism. Read about "Fakes, Frauds, and Deceptive Skulls" for some of the many ways collectors are getting the shaft.

To start it takes unused skulls. Here at LHTT the largest herd of Texas Longhorns in the nation is right next door. More skulls measuring over 100" tip to tip are raised than any other ranch. The time required to hand sand and polish is normally 10 to 15 hours each. It isn't easy, cheap or without serious skill. To convert a raw outdoor skull to an inside, "house broke" skull takes time.
