It was a soft pleasant early Fall day in Ohio for the 58th Anniversary of Dickinson Cattle Co. All DCC cattle buyers were invited to enjoy this special day just for them in appreciation of their support. And, a great day it was. If you attended you will spot yourself in the photos, and if not, you will wish you were here. New faces, new educational speakers, new demonstrations, new food, new trailers, new grand kids. Look below and you will get an idea of the excitement of this special event. Maybe next year?

Just over 200 cattle folks attended the CAD from 14 states and Canada. It was a beautiful day in eastern Ohio at a colorful time of year.
This year an extra tent was added for the larger crowd.
The DCC Exhibition Steer herd was brought in for display with 8 steers over 100" T2T all under age 6.
One demonstration was how to drill pilot holes for driving the PVC Lifetime posts and installation.
Linda and Misty, the highly intelligent staff were taking semen orders and recording private cattle sales during the day. Sales without commissions, consignment fees and multiple promotion costs makes buying private simple and economical. Both seller and buyer save money.
Many got to see the 101" T2T Jam Box for the first time. Also Drop Box, his sire, 22 of his calves, his dam and full sister were displayed. Knowing genetics is about knowing the families.
Chet Welch, of Pennsylvania, takes a long cold gander at Drop Box who was readily appreciative for any personal attention.
Small loud children could be found in trees, running, eating, spilling food, laughing, making friends and occasionally helping.
Tail bleeding for preg checks was demonstrated. Those who wanted to could do hands-on practice, to the cow's chagrin.
Surprise to the calf, the younger cow hands brought an unknowing volunteer for the "hog tying" demo. It seemed easy at first.
Computer entry procedures at Dickinson Cattle Co included early hours of birth weighing, a selenium shot, ear tag name, and photo documentation. When registered cattle producers do the normal record keeping process it eliminates any need for the high cost, long waiting and aggravation of DNA PV testing.
Tucker Snyder was one of the first in line to practice hog tying. This is the beginning step to first-hour calf documentation and data recording. Although Tucker was successful, on others the calf won.
Educational presentations included speakers on fire arm purchases, Is DNA necessary?, petition signing for eliminating Ohio property tax, preparing wills and trusts, clearly branding calves, tail bleeding, using correct minerals to grow larger horn, and marketing in a world wrapped in politics.
The ranch style meal included smoked brisket, flame fired Gulf of America jumbo shrimp, southern style Mexican pinto beans, Ohio potato salad and Drag Iron flavor Stalder ice cream.
Jim and Steffany Fike purchased Silent Shot and took him home to Licking, MO.
Sale cattle were sorted by feeder steers, weaned heifers and herd sire bull prospects. Each was priced. Buyers made their selections with purchases going to 11 states.

Attendees were loaded on Keith Whitehead's big cattle pot and moved to the cattle working area.
Doug Burris demonstrated correct fire branding, band castration, tail bleeding and other DCC procedures. No one volunteered to be branded this year--bummer.
The crew consists of family, grand kids, great grand kids, employees, willing volunteers and others.
