DCC Ranch e-News #390 - 1-20-2025
by Darol Dickinson
Once upon a time our sons and daughter Dela decided to give each of their kids a Texas Longhorn heifer, like they were given dozens of years ago. It became a series of phone calls, requests for photos, and finally each of our grand kids selected a heifer from their parents herd. They studied pedigrees and brought in family member consultants. This didn't happen fast. The following summer each showed their heifers at the ORVTLA annual Ohio show. Being their first show it didn't go that great, but it happened.
Our son Chad gave each of his kids a heifer. Trista Dickinson, (Trista Brumley) Selected an AI daughter of famous sire Jamakizm which she named Jamaka Rose. During the ORVTLA show, unknown to us all, her heifer had been friendly with the young bull Drop Box and was pregnant at show time.

In nature's time, Jamaka Rose birthed a beautiful dark brindle bull calf. He was stunningly attractive, very tall, long and a humongous hip for a calf. At a tender age he was purchased by Ralph and Mauria Dillard of San Angelo, Texas. Their Freedom Ranch is located in the deep Mesquite cactus country of west Texas. Jam Box had all the cactus and Mesquite he could eat, step in or sleep on.
Although Jam Box was very nice, DCC does not have the land to keep every great herd sire prospect until they have fully developed. Many get sold as young calves and the new owner is excited with the result--as was the case with Ralph Dillard.

Over the years Freedom Ranch entered Jam Box in the Horn Showcase where he has won 4 Triple Crown Bronze. Last October he measured 99.625" T2T defeating all comers. Last week he graduated into the elite category of over 100" sires with a whooping 100 3/8" during his fifth year.

JAM BOX has been purchased by Dickinson Cattle Co, soon to return to his birth-pastures of Ohio. To check out Jam Box click https://www.texaslonghorn.com/reference/index.cfm?con=reno&Reg=I-282308. Semen is available $100 for conventional and female sexed at $200.
An introductory rate during his time of semen collection is a very special offering. Purchase 10 female straws for $2000 and get 5 conventional at no extra charge. That is better than a Biden ice cream cone. Not only is Jam Box the prettiest rich color of the over 100" sires, his semen is priced the most economical in order to help prove his siring ability. Breed him to either great cows or just the run-of-the-mill. Test him; help us find out how strong of a sire he is.
Other sires available https://www.texaslonghorn.com/inventory/semen/index.cfm price list. Call DCC for orders. 740 758 5050.
