In 1967 when our family invested in registered Texas Longhorn cattle there was a very dark-brown-brindle speckled heifer we registered as Caledonia. She was a great milker and put many calves into the industry, one being Ranger's Caledonia. From this early foundation, it only took 11 generations to get from that first cow, with about 30" tip to tip, up to Silent Iron with 114 5/16" T2T and a stellar conformation second to none.
Silent Iron was not created fast or easy. From Caledonia over 5000 matings were wrestled with--working to select the very best. Sometimes there were breed improvements and other matings were either just more of the same or a loss of time and generations. Little by little certain stunning individuals were able to breed over themselves producing progeny well above their own qualities. By combining these special animals who gave a forward-jump over and over, Silent Iron happened.
Silent Iron was born May 5, 2013 in the Appalachian foothills of Ohio on Dickinson Cattle Co. She is a daughter of Drag Iron out of a Super Bowl daughter. She is the dam of 25 calves for Dickinson Cattle Co of both embryo transfer and natural births. At this time DCC has 16 of her progeny. One of her first sons, Colluder, was sold to Lindsay and Jeremy McEntire who is her best known progeny and proving to be a great sire.
Although Silent Iron lives at Amarillo, Texas, here in Ohio her name is already in nearly 100 pedigrees. Her sons, grand sons and daughters will be line bred to perpetuate this great, (some say the greatest Texas Longhorn cow ever) genetic package. Check the inventory list of sale cattle and you will find some with the magic word Silent Iron in the pedigree.
